Computers are funny that way
First, to clarify a few things: my computer, Alice, is running just like she should be once more. So don't worry about her. She is once more quieter than my microwave.
The guy in all the black in the last pannel is Mohammad Haque, more commonly known simply as 'Hawk.' He's the artist for AppleGeeks and his general philosophy goes something like this. He's a pretty cool guy and a really fantastic artist, and hopefully a good sport as he doesn't know he's guest staring on Comedity yet....
More news and rantings to come after the lunchbreak.
Right, so. Larom's been kickin' ass and taking names and possibly even chewing bubble gum, all while he works up the new Comedity Brand Forum skin. I have to say it's pretty freakin' sweet. It still has a little fine tuning to do, but if you haven't checked it you, you should. For the non-forum savvy, the option is in your profile. And once he's done with it, that'll be the 'default' option.
In other news, it turns out that Larom is better connected in the webcomic world than even he thought. It turns out that the lass responsible for The Devil's Panties, Jennie Breeden is, in fact, Larom's cousin. Go figure. It's amusing in its own quirky-flaming-combat-book-kicking kind of way. It's not about panties ... or the devil, though both have been known to show up from time to time. What get's me is that she's been doing this daily as "practice" since highschool. She's also recently entered The Daily Grind, which is quite the endurance contest. I think she'll do well in it though.
I saw Constantine the other week, and I have to say that it kicked demon ass and smoked cigarettes like thems were after dinner mints. But then again I have a soft spot for psuedo-religious action films and general angel angst (as seen here). Some of my other favorites (in that genera) are The Prophecy movies (though the first one was best), The Devil's Advocate, End of Days, The Exorcist, Hellboy, The Boondock Saints, City of Angels, What Dreams May Come, and even Dogma, though those last several started branching out into psuedo-religious+other cateogry films. What saddens me most of all is that this film is being brought down by the "it's just another Matrix" line, when all the two films have in common is Keanu Reeves. And Keanu in Constantine is more like Keanu in Johnny Mnemonic than Keanu in The Matrix. Which is great, because we get angry Keanu rather than confused-christ-figure Keanu. I WANT ROOMSERVICE! indeed. If you can't tell by now I'm a bit of a Keanu Reeves fan. I've liked most of his movies, and in my mind he plays a certain role well. Granted, a very limited role, but he pulls it off in my mind. He was awesome in The Matrix because his natural stoniness came off as a man so lost and confused as to what to believe that he just didn't know any more. He sucked in the sequals because they tried to get him to play a role where he was on top of things and had depth of emotion. He can't do Shakespeare for the same reasons. In Constantine his stoniness came off as his character's general pissed-off-at-the-world attitude. And it worked. He delivered some awesome lines. But even if you don't like him, the rest of the cast is great. Rachael Weisz may not be the librarian any more (as she was in The Mummy) but she still plays a great character. And Tilda Swinton nailed Gabriel perfectly. Not the Archangel, just a halfbreed named Gabriel. While I knew the actress was female, I was convinced the character was androgenous, (how I've come to think of angels) which is a true uniqueness in Hollywood. There was some cheese, I'll admit. I don't care how menacing you are, "finger lickin' good" just isn't a line that works. I really hope that Shia LaBeouf won't get typecast as the wanna-be sidekick. 'Cause the kid's good, he really is. But the characters he plays (Chas in Constantine and Farber in I, Robot, also cool film) are often just annoying, though vaguely charming in their own bumbling innocence, despite the "street cred." Ah well, I enjoyed the film. Now, I just need to get my hands on the comic books....
Also, worthy of note: there's an update to that fanpiece I've been working on linked behind each vote icon. I will hopfully have it colored and finished within the week. I'm really diggin' this lotsa solid black style....
Welcome to the Comedity. Don't step on the Penguin.
