mp3s, OSes, and Arrogance

Ok, so it all started when I decided that I need an mp3 player. Well, needless to say the thing that's been making the news lately are these little guys, and I mean, why shouldn't they? They're little, sexy, and cheap. What's not to like? And no, the lack of screen doesn't mean anything to me. I don't brows through my music on my desktop unless I'm creating a playlist anyhow. But, of course, being the consumer I am, I looked at the competition and came across these guys. And they're even smaller, albeit more expensive. What really excites me is that the iriver n10 uses an OLED display. Now, that may not mean much to you, but this is the stuff everyone in my design studio has been throwing into their designs for a couple of years now, and it really exciting for me to see the technology actually on the market. Sadly it's an expensive little player, so I probably will not own the glorious little pendant display of the iriver n10. Oh well.

So this of course brought me into association with the oppinions with regard to Apple vs. Microsoft. Holy shit, I didn't think the hatred ran as deep as it does. There are Windows folk who think Apple products are over-priced crap, selling you on 'looks' rather than 'function.' (Which to an exstent is true, you do pay more for the designer look.) But I found that the hatred on the Apple side of the fence was much more numberous. Of course there's the long held believe that Microsoft is the devil monopoly that's brainwashed the planet into buying it's worthless, disfunctional crap. But damn man. Why can't we all just be friends? Why must there be this hatred and predjudice? Can't us OSes just get along? Not that I suppose it matters, because after all every OS sucks.

And don't try to tell me that they don't. Window's crashes and has virus and spyware issues (though you can deal with all that if you do things right), OSX locks up, is counter intuitive, doesn't work with a lot of programs, and Linux, well you have to be programmer to get the most out of it and need a windows emulator to use just about any program. They all have their benefits, and they all have their demons. Choose your poison and enjoy it, and don't try to convince anyone else that your pick tastes better than the next guy's as they'll all disolves your insides.

As for me, I think I'm gonna go buy me one 'a them 1GB iPod shuffles and hook it up to my darling Alice (winXP, pentium4 chip, radeon 9800xt 256mb graphics card, 1GB ram). Boo-yah!
