14 baseball team defeated On April 21, the Laurel Wildcats defeated Kettering 14 1 in a tournament sponsored by Marlboro's U 14 coach John Thrift. On the mound, Stephen Henry recorded 10 strikeouts. At the plate, Tommy LaMothe pounded their pitchers resulting in three runs batted in. The Wildcats got doubles from Stephen Henry, Matt Morgan, and Kevin Olive. On defense, Laurel catcher Jordan Keyser called all the plays and executed numerous plays resulting in multiple outs. On April 22, the Wildcats defeated Marlboro 7 5. On the mound, Justin Jenkins started the game recording six strikeouts, and Joseph Murray pitched the last three innings and picked up the save. At the plate, Henry and Travis Stewart had key hits. Youth hoops tourney and tryouts The fourth annual Oxon Hill Sixers King of the Hill Youth Basketball Tournament will be held May 23 to 28 at Oxon Hill High. The double elimination tournament is open to boys and girls in the 9 through 17 and under age groups. First and second place team and individual trophies will be awarded. The cost is $275 per team. The registration deadline is May 15 and is on a first come, first served basis. Wildcats U 13 boys soccer wins The Laurel Wildcats boys U 13 soccer team evened its season record at 1 1 with a 4 0 home victory over the Northern St. Mary's Lightning in MPSL action. In wilting heat, the Wildcats wore down the Lightning and put on tremendous pressure throughout the game. Scoring for Laurel were Drew Phillips, who continued his improved play; Daniel Tavares, who was successful in the fight for 50 50 balls; Chris McIntosh, who was relentless in keeping the pressure on; and Tim Breen, one of the additions to the team whose speed and good attitude have been a huge plus for the Wildcats. Teddy Ertter played good defense, and Ciara Dinh played solid midfield for European Sport Garage. Shameka Smith had both goals for Donaldson and Jennifer Summann played well. CYO junior varsity league baseball St. Mary's of The Mills (Laurel) defeated St. Jerome's (Hyattsville) 11 3 on April 7 at Magruder Park in Hyattsville. Michael Murray recorded 10 strikeouts on the mound with Nick Dziegrenuk finishing for the save. At the plate, Patrick Gale had three hits, Greg Schlichter and Michael Murray had two hits each, Matthew Kime, Andrew Gormally, and Bryan Gale all had one apiece.
