AAU organizing state football tournament The Maryland State Youth Championships will be played Dec. 15 at MT Bank Stadium in Baltimore, home to the NFL Baltimore Ravens, who are sponsoring the event. The AAU National Championships take place Dec. 2 in Haines City, Fla. It will be the first time AAU tackle football will be contested on the national level. Other youth organizations, like the Capital Beltway League and the Boys and Girls Clubs, are not eligible to go to the nationals. The Capital Beltway League, which includes football teams from the Laurel, Bowie, Forestville, Peppermill and Marlboro Boys and Girls Clubs, will send its champions to the AAU state event, according to the league Web site. The partnership enables AAU to offer small grants for its member organizations to be used for such things as equipment and insurance. Clubs have to pay their own way to Florida. After 119 years of existence, AAU is trying to successfully venture into tackle football for the first time.
