6 million school bond MARLBORO The school district will ask residentsto approve a $46.6 million bond in November as it seeks tooffer free, full day kindergarten and renovate aging facilities. Themoney will be used to construct 28 classrooms at the David C. Abbott Early Learning Center, add air conditioning units to other campusesand replace water heaters, fire alarms and windows at the schools, the district said. The Abbott Early Learning Center, built in 2003, will also get a new cafeteria that doubles as a gym, and its common area will be converted into a media center. The district still hasn't calculated the cost to taxpayers, according to Cindy Barr Rague, the district's business administrator. 3. The Abbott Early Learning Center, she added, was built with the intention of housing all the preschoolers andkindergartners; the other elementary schools are full andhave no room toaccommodatea full day kindergarten program, said Barr Rague. The improvements at the Abbott Early Learning Center are expected to cost $20.3 million and welcome newfull timekindergartners for the 2017 school year, officialsestimated.
